It’s Official! APC Backs Akpabio, Abass For Senate President, Speaker
The national working committee of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has zoned the position of the Senate President and speaker of the 10th national assembly to the South South and North West respectively.
Senator Godswill Akpabio from Akwa Ibom State is being tipped for Senate president, while Senator Barau Jubrin from Kano state is being tipped as its deputy. In the house of Representatives, Hon Tajudeen Abass from Kaduna state is tipped to be speaker, when Rep Benjamin Kalu from Abia state will be his deputy.
APC spokesman, Felix Morka in a statement after the NWC meeting on Monday in Abuja said the party has decided to zone the two major principal officers of the 10th national assembly to the South-south and North West.
But despite the zoning the chairman House Committee on appropriation, Hon Aliyu Betara from Borno State has defied the APC zoning and declared for the position of the Speaker.
Meanwhile, Hon Abdulmumini Jubrin, a representative elected on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, had earlier boasted that the minority parties will determine the Speaker amongst the APC candidates without necessarily supporting the anointed candidate.
