FOMWAN Trains Women On Vocational Skills In Osun

The Osun State Chapter of Federation Of Muslim Women’s Association in Nigeria (FOMWAN) has trained women in the state on vocational skills to become self-reliant.

The training which was held at the FOMWAN state headquarters in Osogbo was part of various activities marking the 2023 FOMWAN Week.

The Ameerat of FOMWAN in Osun State, Alhaja Sadiat Oladapo said the training was aimed at liberating women form poverty and empowered them to be self-reliant and live a very happy family life.

FOMWAN Week was commemorated with the theme “Achieving Sefl-Sustenance and Improved Family Well Being for Sustainable Socio-Economic Development: Role Of Every Individual”.

FOMWAN leaders, Alhaja Kudirat Nafiu and Alhaja Suaibat Bolanle Babalola Adubi Advised women to ensure that they are productively engaged and support their husbands rather than becoming liability to their husbands.

FOMWAN set aside 1st to 7th of June every year as FOMWAN Week to render humanitarian services to people and communities.

Oladapo said FOMWAN envisions a world where women are totally empowered to be role models in making positive impact in the Society.

According to her, “FOMWAN is a civil Society, non-governmental and non-profit making association established and registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission in 1985.

She said that FOMWAN is working to improve the socio-economic status of the populace, especially women, youths and children through training, provision of qualitative education, health and humanitarian services, micro-enterprise schemes and advocacy.

“One of the cardinal programs of the Association is Humanitarian and Community Development as it is evident in most of our activities particularly the establishment of FOMWAN Orphanages.”

She said that FOMWAN embarked on visitation to Hospitals and Correctional Services Centre to giver sermon, pray and present gift items to patients and inmate.

According to her, “The genesis of FOMWAN Week is to be able to access ourselves review our activities in the last one year and see whether we have been an impact on ourselves and the society.

“Every year we start the programme with the press conference for us to be able to tell the whole world what we have been able to do in the last one year. Alhamdulillah last year we completed a block of two toilets for the Egbedi Community as part of our activities on eradication of open defecation.”

Other activities held to mark the FOMWAN Week include lecture and Symposium as well as Special Prayer for the Nation.

Also, there was an exhibition of some of the items produced by FOMWAN trainees.
