OGD Drops A Bombshell! Ex Governors Collecting Double Pay Will Refund It

There will come a good day when all those collecting double pay now as former governors and senators will have to refund the money. It may be six to seven years down the line and on a good day, they will refund it. So, why do you need to collect money you will later refund when the money may not be there again?”

A former governor of Ogun State and Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District in the Red Chamber, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has hinted that former governors collecting humongous pension now will have to refund it one day.

Daniel spoke on Channel Television current affairs programme, Sunrise Daily, monitored in Lagos on Tuesday.

He said he never thought that his letter to Governor Dapo Abiodun to stop his monthly stipend will attract such publicity.

According to him, ” After I was sworn-in in as a senator of federal Republic of Nigeria on June 13, I sat with my staff and we were cross checking not to run foul of the law. I checked about operating foreign account and other issues, when one of them brought to my notice that the monthly stipend from Ogun State and I have to write the governor to stop it.”

Daniel, commenting on the SERAP suit to compel the former governors who were still collecting double pay while serving as ministers and senators, he said the N40bilion quoted may have been exaggerated.

He, however, said all those collecting double pay now as former governors will have to refund it someday.

” There will come a good day when all those collecting double pay now as former governors and senators will have to refund the money. It may be six to seven years down the line and on a good day, they will refund it. So, why do you need to collect money you will later refund when the money may not be there again?” He asked.

It will be recalled that Daniel’s letter to Governor Abiodun to stop his monthly stipend has continued to generate controversy.

At least about fourteen former governors in the 10th senate, including the president of the senate, Godswill Akpabio are collecting humongous pension and allowances from their state governors even while they are in the Senate or as ministers.
