The new Emir of Zuru has emerged.
He is Alhaji Sanusi Mikail Sami, Sami Gomo the third.
The official announcement was made on Thursday, at the Zuru Emir’s Palace by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Abubakar Garba Dutsin-Mari, who also presented the appointment letter signed by Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State.
While presenting the letter, the Commissioner explained that the appointment followed the submission of three names by the Zuru Emirate Council’s Kingmakers to the Governor, in accordance with constitutional provisions.
Governor Nasir Idris, exercising the powers vested in him, approved Alhaji Sanusi Mikail Sami as the new Emir of Zuru, now officially recognized as Gomo III.
Earlier, the Sarkin Wasagu, Alhaji Muktari Musa, who had served as Acting Emir since the demise of the late Emir, formally received the new Emir and welcomed all guests to the palace.
In his remarks, the new Emir expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah and to Governor Nasir Idris for the confidence reposed in him.
He called on the people to remain peaceful, loyal, and united, assuring them of an open-door policy and inclusive leadership.
He commended the Sarkin Wasagu for his capable stewardship during the transitional period and pledged to continue supporting the people of the Emirate as he has always done.
He solicited the cooperation and prayers of his subjects to enable him to succeed.
It will be recalled that the late Emir, retired Major General Muhammad Sani Sami (Gomo II), passed away recently in a London hospital and was laid to rest at his residence in Zuru.
