PAPALOLO:The Comedian Of Nigerian Golden Age At 88
By Bimbo Esho
Some names will be very difficult to easily erase in the Nigerian Golden age of comedy when we had cultural progress, peace, prosperity, and happiness.
A name like Papalolo whose real name is Ayo Ogunsina remains a force to be reckoned with when talking about Father’s of Nigerian comedy.
Together with Jacob and Aderupoko they effortlessly gave laughter to many homes with their style of comedy skit in the 70’s. Their unique style had cultural depth and reflected on everyday life of the common man.

In those days when I used to watch their comedy skits Papalolo was of particular interest to me as he always serenaded his audience with different musical styles ranging from Fela Kuti’s songs to Ebenezer Obeys Song and also sometimes singing popular highlife songs.* In a satirical way they mirrored real life issues in the society and turned them to humorous skits which made them very popular.
Papalolo who is 88 years today can be seen in the attached video serenading his younger colleagues in the industry with one of Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey’s Evergreen Classic a common trademark in his style of Comedy ( Singing Satirically).
Happy Birthday to One of Nigeria’s Father’s of Comedy.
