The biggest and the toughest professional football league in the world, the English Premier League, now has a new winner.
The 2025/2026 EPL, expectedly produced so much dramas, excitements and with few weeks to the end of the season, nobody was sure of anything. Not even the traditional top six teams in the league. While some were floating like butterflies, some others stung the big fries occasionally, just as some traditional league leaders sat precariously like the proverbial elephant on a tree.
Last season’s winner Liverpool, unbelievably fell off the top pack losing a record 12 games, left to now struggle for a Champions league slot on the last game of the season. For many aficionados, 20 times champions of the EPL, Manchester United was not expected to make the Champions league spot, and after sacking a couple of coaches during the season, they seem to have got it right with the timely appointment of Michael Carrick.
Like Manchester United, former EPL champion and current FIFA World Club Club winners, Chelsea, characteristically spent millions of pounds in signing of assumed big players, that never truly came to the party for them and expectedly, coaches were hired and fired with reckless abandon.
And who would have expected London big boys, Tottenham Hotspur, to be threatened by relegation from the EPL. That is the unpredictability, drama and excitement of the beautiful game of football.
Coming so close on many occasions during their 22 years long wait for the title, since the legendary Arsene Wenger left the club, Mikel Arteta and his boys showed determination, resilience, zeal and undying hunger to change the narratives that they are perennial bottlers.
Whilst Manchester City, suffered the same curse with Liverpool, drawing and sometimes losing games against beatable opponents, Arsenal were busy gathering points and taking all comers to the cleaners.
The Spaniard brought out another side to his side’s game, as the lads became gritty, physical and precise in the games leading up to the title race.
Against all odds, Mikel Arteta, broke the shackles of near misses. Rise for recognition and celebration, Noni Madueke, Eberechi Eze and irrepressible Bukayo Saka. You are worthy champions!
