City People Publisher, Seye Kehinde, OON, Wins NADECO Awards
On Wednesday 20th May 2026, the leadership of National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) honoured Seye Kehinde (OON), the Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of City People in Lagos.
The well attended event took place at the Shell Hall of the Muson Centre, Onikan, Lagos.
At the event, he received a Certificate of Appreciation, in recognition of his exceptional professional courage, integrity and partriotism in reporting, documenting and commenting on the activities of NADECO and the wider pro-democracy movement in Nigeria, during the year 1994-1998.
His Certificate of Appreciation was signed by Chief Ayo Opadokun, the indefatigable Secretary General & Spokesman of NADECO. Kehinde wasn’t the only one honoured at the event, which was meant to mark the launch of Opadokun’s book titled: The NADECO story, which captures a defining moment in the life of Nigeria. It is a story of heroism as ordinary men and women joined the high & mighty to confront Military boots, bullets and bombs to protest the annulment of the June 12 1993 elections won by the late Chief MKO Abiola.
Seye Kehinde was one of the Editors of TheNews/Tempo media group that battled the Military to a standstill along with his colleagues, until Democracy returned in 1999. His other colleagues in TheNews/Tempo, TELL and other vibrant media houses, who were part of the struggle for the restoration of Democracy were also honoured.
The Award is coming after his recent national award of OON, conferred on him last year by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He has been the recipient of over a hundred awards for his remarkable role in his noble profession as a Journalist, Publisher & pro-democracy activist who fought for the return of Democracy in 1999.
