YP4T Celebrates International Youth Day 2026, Urges Youth To Shape Politics

Young Professionals For Tinubu (YP4T) on Wednesday joined millions across the world to celebrate the 2026 International Youth Day. The day was marked with the theme, ‘Different Contexts, Common Aspirations’. And it of course, calls on the needs for youths across different countries of the world, to realise that the aspirations for a better society, is a common desire.
Speaking with journalists Wednesday in Abuja, to mark the day, National Coordinator of YP4T, Hon. Alex Oware, harped on the reorientation of the youths of Nigeria, as it concerns their longtime apathy to politics, which undoubtedly, has the power to shape the future.
He said, “youths must be in politics because we’re in the majority with over 70% in population. Beyond political affiliations, at YP4T, we’ve continued to encourage the youths and other young professionals to participate actively in politics and opportunities to influence life-changing policies.
“Politics isn’t for old people. This government of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has continued to show its uncommon love and support for the empowerment of Nigerian youths.
“Participation and doing the right thing to exercise your political franchise, which starts with you getting your voters card, can help you to influence decisions that affect your school fees, your safety and your future.”
Hon. Oware, reemphasised the needs for youth participation in electoral process, and how they can demand accountability from local government, shape policy on jobs, sports and education.
The youthful and awards-winning nationalist went philosophical, as he recalled the popular sayings, “If you’re not at the table, you’re on the menu. Politics determines who gets contracts, who gets jobs, and what kind of country we inherit.
“Youths complaining on Twitter but not voting, not joining parties, not organizing and leaving the table empty.”The future isn’t something we enter. The future is something we create. And that starts with showing up,” he added.
