Just In: Rescue Operations Underway After Three-Storey Building Collapses In Abuja
ABUJA, NIGERIA — A major emergency response is currently underway in the nation’s capital following the collapse of a three-storey building in the busy commercial hub of Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, on Monday night.
The incident, which occurred around 7:45 p.m., triggered an immediate deployment of first responders, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and a specialized team from the FCT Police Command.

Tragedy was largely averted due to a timely intervention earlier in the day. Officials from the FCTA Department of Development Control had inspected the structure on Monday morning after it showed visible signs of structural distress. Recognizing the immediate danger, the department sealed off the property and issued a mandatory quit notice, ordering all occupants to vacate the premises immediately.
While the majority of the occupants had evacuated following the morning warning, emergency teams are working urgently under floodlights to clear the debris and ensure no individuals were trapped inside when the structure gave way.
“Our primary focus right now is search and rescue,” an emergency official at the scene stated. “We have men from the Fire Service actively cutting through the rubble, and security personnel have cordoned off the entire perimeter to maintain order.”
Three ambulances remain stationed at the site, ready to provide immediate medical attention. As of late Monday night, no casualties have been officially confirmed by authorities.
Motorists and residents are strongly advised to avoid the Wuse Zone 4 axis tonight to prevent severe traffic congestion and to grant emergency vehicles unhindered access to the scene. Investigations into the root cause of the structural failure are expected to begin once the rescue operations are concluded.
