Boycott: National Assembly Halts All Official Engagements With South Africa Over Xenophobic Attacks

The National Assembly has suspended all official visits to South Africa and resolved to boycott legislative activities hosted or organized by the country until further notice.

The decision comes as a direct response to persistent reports of xenophobic attacks and growing hostility targeting Nigerian citizens and other African nationals living in South Africa.

The sweeping suspension covers both physical and virtual legislative engagements, including international parliamentary conferences, workshops, and seminars. Lawmakers stated that the boycott will remain in place until the South African government takes definitive action to protect foreign nationals and hold perpetrators accountable.

Additionally, federal lawmakers have urged State Houses of Assembly across Nigeria to adopt similar measures to present a unified front. While leadership emphasized that this move does not completely sever diplomatic ties between the two nations, it serves as a firm stance to safeguard the lives, property, and dignity of Nigerians abroad.
