Tinubu Declares ‘Age Of Prosperity’ Begins, Reports Over 4% GDP Growth And $6B Non-Oil Export Record

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared an official end to Nigeria’s economic emergency phase, announcing that the nation has successfully transitioned from a period of painful structural reforms into an era focused on shared prosperity.

In a nationwide broadcast marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Day on October 1, 2026, President Tinubu robustly defended his administration’s aggressive economic overhauls, asserting that the difficult decisions made since 2023 saved the country from an impending systemic collapse.

He compared Nigeria’s previous economic reliance on unsustainable subsidies to a cancer patient opting for temporary pain relief over a cure.

“The emergency treatment is over. The foundation has been repaired,” President Tinubu declared. “The age of reform has done its work. Now begins the age of prosperity.”

Listing key economic breakthroughs under his watch, the President revealed that the Nigerian economy grew by over 4 per cent this year, driven by stable growth across both the oil and non-oil sectors.

Highlighting fiscal gains, he noted that crude oil theft has dropped significantly, inflation has receded from its historic peak, and foreign reserves have been thoroughly rebuilt.

Crucially, the President announced that Nigeria recorded its highest-ever revenue from non-oil exports in 2025, exceeding $6 billion—a milestone he described as “real money being made by real Nigerian businesses” and validated by international observers and multilateral institutions.

Acknowledging that many families still face a steep cost of living, the President promised a relentless focus on bringing down food and transportation costs through mechanized irrigation, improved agricultural infrastructure, and industrial gas power projects.

He reaffirmed that social safety nets like the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and consumer credit system CREDICORP will remain heavily prioritized to bridge the wealth gap.

“Nigeria has corrected its course. We have passed through our own Red Sea,” the President said, urging citizens to remain resilient. “This is not the time to look back. Let us go forward together.”
