Omisore Mourns As Afenifere Leader, Chief Reuben Fasoranti, Dies At 100
AKURE, NIGERIA — Afenifere chieftain Senator Iyiola Omisore has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the National Leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Chief Dr. Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, CFR, describing him as a “rare gem” and a true nation-builder.
The revered elder statesman passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at his residence in Akure, Ondo State, at the age of 100.

In a condolence message signed by the Director General of the Rescue Mission, Hon. Ajibola Famurewa, Senator Omisore lamented that the immense wealth of experience possessed by the late centenarian would be sorely missed by the entire Yoruba race and Nigeria as a whole.
He described Chief Fasoranti not merely as a political figure, but as an institution of knowledge and leadership acumen.
“What made Baba exceptional was that even at 100, he remained politically alert, mentally sound, and intellectually sharp,” Omisore stated.
“He never suffered the memory loss often associated with old age. He could recall events, dates, and historical facts with precision. He was one of those rare gems created by God.”
Omisore recalled how Chief Fasoranti’s wisdom, fatherly counsel, and strategic guidance consistently stabilized and strengthened Afenifere, cementing its status as a formidable socio-political group.
He noted that the patriarch’s unwavering stance on justice, federalism, restructuring, and good governance provided a clear direction for the Yoruba nation for decades.
Extending his deepest sympathies to the Fasoranti family, the Akure Kingdom, and the Government and people of Ondo State, Omisore prayed for the eternal repose of the departed leader’s soul, stating that his century-long life remains an enduring lesson in selfless service.
