ACSPN Calls For Stronger Media Collaboration With Journalism Profession In Ondo State
The Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN) has paid a courtesy visit to the Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Ìdòwú Ajanaku, seeking strategic collaboration to strengthen media professionalism, information management, and capacity development within the state.
Leading the delegation, the Ondo State Coordinator of ACSPN, Mr. Sunday Kolawole, said the visit was aimed at familiarisation and partnership building, describing the Ministry of Information and Orientation as a critical institution for nurturing communication professionals.
Abiodun Omotoso, spokesman of Ministry of Information in a statement issued said the ACSPN team leader commended the state government for appointing a commissioner with a professional background in information and communication, noting that Hon. Ajanaku’s expertise positions the ministry to effectively address contemporary communication challenges.
Kolawole explained that ACSPN is a professional body comprising both scholars and practitioners, including lecturers, professors, and seasoned media experts who teach and shape the communication profession nationwide.
He emphasised the importance of synergy and collaboration, particularly as the state prepares for key engagements such as the 50th anniversary of Ondo State and the forthcoming first anniversary of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa’s administration.
The ACSPN coordinator also raised concerns about emerging threats to journalism practice, especially the increasing use of artificial intelligence in content creation.
He stressed the need for continuous training and retraining of media personnel to enable them to identify AI-generated content, curb misinformation, and uphold ethical standards, adding that the association promotes accurate information dissemination and rejects the misuse of the term “fake news.”
In his response, Hon. Idowu Ajanaku welcomed the association and assured members of the ministry’s readiness to collaborate and provide institutional support for initiatives that will enhance media practice and public communication.
He described the work of the media as central to governance and said partnerships with credible professional bodies would help improve information dissemination and professional standards in the state.
In his closing remarks, the Administrative Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Lanre Akarakiri, described the emergence of ACSPN in Ondo State as a timely solution to challenges confronting the journalism profession.
He assured the association of the ministry’s full support, noting that such collaboration would strengthen professionalism, capacity building, and credible communication across Ondo State.
