Astronomical Air Fare:FG Debunks Reports On Increase In Airline Charges

The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, has debunked the trending news that the increase in federal government charges to the airlines operating in Nigeria has led to astronomical increase in air fare.

FAAN Spokesperson, Faithful Hope-Ivbaze In a statement on Monday debunked the claim.

She said; “The charges being collected by FAAN are statutory, and therefore cannot be increased without the knowledge of our esteemed passengers and other airport users.

“While it is true that the cost of aviation fuel has gone astronomically high and has adversely affected airline operators worldwide, culminating in an increase in ticket fares, we want to reiterate that FAAN has not increased its charges.”

With respect to the above captioned story written by a popular media, and making the rounds on social media, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria would like to inform passengers and the general public that we did not increase any of our charges.

The charges being collected by FAAN are statutory, and therefore cannot be increased without the knowledge of our esteemed passengers and other airport users. While it is true that the cost of aviation fuel has gone astronomically high and has adversely affected airline operators worldwide, culminating in an increase in ticket fares, we want to reiterate that FAAN has not increased its charges.

We are mindful of the challenges of our esteemed passengers and other airport users as a result of the increase in airfares,hence the need not to do so.

However,the Federal Government and agencies within the aviation  sector have intensified efforts to ensure that the challenges facing it are resolved.
