2023:Gbajabiamila’s Statement That Nigeria Needs Credible Leader Is An Admission Of Failure, SDP Presidential Candidate, Adebayo Adewole… Says APC Bought Votes In Ekiti

The Presidential Candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Prince Adebayo Adewole, has said the statement credited to the speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila that Nigeria needs credible leader is an admission of failure.

Adebayo spoke during his interview on Channels Television program, Sunrise Daily monitored in Lagos on Tuesday.

He said; “Everything we need to do well as a country is available except the leadership. Gbajabiamila said we need credible leader. The President of the senate Ahmad Lawan has echoed same and their presidential candidate said he came to rescue Nigeria when they are the one in charge now So, Gbajabiamila’s charge is an admission of failure.”

He, however, explained that SDP is different and won’t engage in anything that’s not lawful.

“For instance, There’s no single vote buyer in SDP, if there’s anyone, let us know, we’ll expel him. In Ekiti, we came Second because we refused to buy votes and the party that came first bought 99 percent of their votes. Those who bought votes during their primaries will likely buy votes during the presidential election.“We know those who buy votes in Ekiti. They are known. INEC know them. The videos are there. We need to call out those who engaged in such acts so that it will deter others.” He added.

On how to curtail votes buying on Election Day, he said; “We should start by identifying those who are likely to buy votes and discourage that. Again, the posture of INEC’s cubicle needs to change.

“In Ekiti where votes buying was rampant, APC who happens to be chief votes buyers followed the voters and said number five to indicate the position of the APC on the ballot. In Oye and Ado-Ekiti where votes buying was rampant, I could hear APC agents negotiating with the voters.”

On what SDP will do differently, Adebayo maintains that the different is clear.

“First, In our case, we speak for ourselves. We’ll not send someone to speak for us. Some are already running away from debate now.

“Second, You will not see us running expensive campaign. We don’t surround ourselves with those who are for the status quo.

“Thirdly, We are not giving promises, but plans on how to do it. In 2015, President Muhammadu Buhari never promised anything except saying from bottom to top.”
