WUFEP:Skills Acquisition Panacea To Economic Growth, Unemployment

The Rector of the Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic (WUFEP) Birnin-Kebbi, KEBBI State, Dr. Sani Usman Tunga has described skills acquisition Among students in Nigeria Tertiary Institutions as the only panacea for unemployment, insecurity, restlessness and economic growth.
Dr. Tunga in his welcome address at a one day Conference on skills acquisition and fund raising for the building of Secretariat for Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) WUFEP Chapter stated this while welcoming Guests, Students and Lecturers at the auditorium of the Polytechnic.
He averred that it is a common knowledge to note that insecurity, has deeply introduce hunger, poverty, unemployment and other social vices into the Nigeria society, urging the governments at both National and State levels to team up with the Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic to achieve what skills acquisition among youth will do for the economic growth of the Country.
The Rector called on Federal and State government for improve funds for the Nigeria Polytechnics, urging that governments should borrow leaf from the Asian Tiger Countries who have used technology for their development, saying Nigeria can do same.
He challenged participants to use the knowledge acquire at the Conference to advance the fortunes of the Institution, pointing out that promotions for both academic and non academic staff will commence from next year, 2024, promising to send staff to attend Conferences and Workshops.
The immediate past Rector of the Institution, Architect Muhammad Sani Aliyu in his key note address urged the Institution to place emphasis on entrepreneurship training, noting that such training would contribute immensely to economic growth and development of a given society.
In his speech, the Executive Governor of the State who is also and alumnus of the Polytechnic, Dr. Comrade Nasiru Idris, who was represented by his Deputy, Sen. Abubakar Umar Tafida stated that education is the priority of his administration, hence he constitute board of education in the State.
Comrade Idris who donated the sum of N20 million onbehalf of the State government said he was proud to be a product of the Polytechnic, adding that his administration would partners the College of Vocational and Technical Education of the Institution to produce quality Teachers for the education development of the State.While appriciating the invited guests to the occasion, the Polytechnic chapter Chairman of ASUP, Dr. Umaru Bashir, expressed appreciation onbehalf of his members to the State Governor, the Minister of State for Education and the Chief luncher, Bello Ka’oje and others.Over N50 million was realised at the occasion.
