ICOBA 77/79 Set To Fund And Drive Third Review Of Igbobi College Strategic Master Plan

Lagos, September 2026 — As Igbobi College approaches its centenary, the Igbobi College Old Boys’ Association (ICOBA) is preparing to undertake a major review of the institution’s strategic direction, with the 77/79 Set formally agreeing to fund and drive the Third Review of the Igbobi College Strategic Master Plan.

This was announced in a statement signed by Femi Bankole, ICOBA National Publicity Secretary.

The initiative marks another significant step in ICOBA’s longstanding commitment to the College’s sustainable development and to ensuring that Igbobi enters its second century with a clear vision, a sustainable strategy and the institutional capacity to meet the demands of a changing educational environment.

The Master Plan was originally developed by ICOBA in partnership with the College’s Board of Governors. Its third review will convene key stakeholders to assess progress, identify gaps and emerging priorities, and develop a practical roadmap for the next phase of the College’s development.

The exercise is expected to be supported by leading management consulting firms, including Phillips Consulting and Andersen Consulting, whose expertise will contribute to a rigorous assessment of the existing Plan and the formulation of an actionable strategy.

Announcing the initiative, Chief Yomi Badejo-Okusanya, the 12th President of ICOBA, described the review as a critical intervention at a pivotal moment in the College’s history.

“Igbobi College is approaching its centenary, and we have a responsibility to ensure that the institution enters its second century with clarity of purpose, a sustainable strategy, and the capacity to compete with the best.”

He noted that the involvement of the 77/79 Set was particularly significant given its historic contribution to the origins of the Master Plan.

“We are particularly pleased that the 77/79 Set, which played a historic role in developing the Master Plan, has stepped forward once again to fund and lead this important review.”

The Chairman of the Board of Governors, Sir Babatunde Emmanuel Sobamowo, said the exercise must go beyond producing another strategic document and focus on measurable results.

“This is about more than reviewing a document. It is about defining the Igbobi College we want to hand over to the next generation.”

He added that the Board would work closely with ICOBA, the 77/79 Set, College management and other stakeholders to ensure that the outcome is both ambitious and implementable.

For Dr Ebun Bamgboye, Chairman of the 77/79 Set, the initiative represents a continuation of the Set’s longstanding commitment to the College.

“Our generation was privileged to contribute to its origins, and we believe it is only fitting that we help ensure it remains relevant to the realities and aspirations of a College approaching its centenary.”

The review will build on a renewed 10-year Master Plan developed by Dr Segun Fayemi of ICOBA North America.

Among other objectives, it will assess implementation to date, identify strategic gaps and emerging priorities, set clear investment priorities, strengthen governance and accountability, and develop a phased, costed and measurable implementation roadmap.

Particular attention will be paid to aligning the College’s infrastructure, academic excellence, technology, student experience, financial sustainability, institutional governance and brand positioning with the requirements of a modern, globally competitive secondary school.

The exercise is more than a review of an existing plan. It is an opportunity to ask a fundamental question: What kind of Igbobi College should be handed down to the next generation?

As the College approaches its centenary, the challenge is to preserve what makes Igbobi distinctive while renewing the institution for the future.

The Third Review is therefore intended as a bridge between Igbobi’s distinguished heritage and its ambitions for the next century—protecting its traditions while strengthening its educational offering, facilities, governance and institutional capacity.
